2008 Summer Session — Continuing Education & Outreach at Binghamton University

2008 Binghamton University Summer Session

Summer Session Academic Information

Courses

The Summer Session is an integral part of Binghamton University and the courses offered in it are similar in character to courses in the fall and spring semesters: Summer Session courses are governed by the same academic regulations and have the same credit value. All courses carry four credits unless otherwise noted.

Cancellation of Courses

Because of the regulations governing Summer Session, courses that do not meet minimum enrollment targets are ordinarily cancelled. Firm enrollment figures are generally not available until the first day of classes and some courses may be cancelled then. The Summer Session Office cannot guarantee that every course listed will actually be taught.

Grades

For Summer Session undergraduate courses, two grade options are generally available: Normal (i.e., letter grades) and Pass/Fail. Students indicate their grade option preference when they fill out the Course Registration Form.

A notation of Incomplete, rather than a grade, may be reported by the instructor when a student has not been able to complete a course for what, in the instructor's judgment, is a compelling reason.

An Incomplete notation for an undergraduate course must be replaced with a grade by the end of the fall semester following the Summer Session when the course was taken. Incomplete notations will change to an F grade at the end of the fall semester unless an official Extension of Incomplete form has been filed with the Registrar's Office.

Grade Reports

Grades are available through the Binghamton University Student Information (BUSI) Web Center (http://busi.binghamton.edu); you may obtain your grades from anywhere you have access to a computer.

Students must have a valid Student ID card to access their grades. Please come to the Registrar's Office, located in the Student Services Wing (SW-119), to get an ID card (unless you are a currently enrolled Binghamton student with a valid ID card) within a week before the start of Summer Session.

You may print a personal grade report by visiting the BUSI website, going to "My Grades and Credits" and printing a copy of the grades screen. While we expect that most students' needs will be met with these services, students who must have a printed grade report may obtain one by mailing or FAXing (not e-mailing) a request to the Registrar's Office. Your signature is required on the request.

Transcripts

A student's official transcript will be released by the Registrar's Office upon the student's written request. Transcripts will not be released for students who have any financial obligations to the University. Official transcripts are not available until the end of the entire Summer Session.

The Student ID Card

To access grades, for access to the libraries, the gymnasiums and other University facilities, students must have a valid ID card. Students not currently enrolled at Binghamton should obtain their ID cards within a week before the official beginning of the Summer Session on May 27, or any time thereafter. ID cards are issued by the Registrar's Office, located in SSW-119, to students who have registered and paid for at least one credit.

Course Offerings

  • Courses numbered 100 to 499 are undergraduate courses.
  • Courses numbered 500-707 are graduate courses.

All courses carry four credits unless otherwise noted.
