Binghamton University's internship programs offer an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience along with academic credit. Every field is represented, structure is flexible, and best of all, you can take your internship anywhere in the United States. For more information regarding the types of internships listed below, contact the appropriate departments.
Art History:
Internships are available through the Art History Department and in conjunction with a variety of art
institutions and associations. Past internships have been with the Roberson Museum and Science Center,
the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum and various private
galleries. Prerequisites include: appropriate introductory courses in art or art history and approval
of the institutional supervisor and undergraduate director. Interested students should consult in advance
with the undergraduate director of the Art History Department for application procedures and deadlines.
Management:
Opportunities often are available to obtain academic credit
for well-structured, work-related experiences in all management fields. Faculty supervision and consent are
necessary. Strong academic content and degree relevancy must be demonstrated. Pass/Fail option only.
Prerequisites include: junior standing and appropriate introductory courses.
Off Campus College:
Off Campus College (OCC) offers summer internships, which are highly dependent upon student initiative. Students
must identify the desired agency then submit a proposal for credit to Off Campus College. These internships
are not restricted to the Broome County area and may be taken anywhere in the United States. Summer internships
may be taken for two credits (OCC 494) or four credits (OCC 394), depending upon the needs of the students and
the hours of participation in the internship. The academic component of the program is the focal point, as
students are assigned a faculty leader who assigns and grades all academic work. For additional information
about the internship programs contact OCC at 607-777-4273.
The Office of International Programs (OIP), in room G-1 of the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center, provides information on study-abroad opportunities and procedures. Binghamton students interested in a summer study-abroad program may wish to explore our summer programs in Morocco, Spain and Turkey. We also have information on other short-term summer programs offered periodically and the summer program offered by other SUNY campuses and outside of SUNY. Visit our website at http://oip.binghamton.edu, call 607-777-2336 or stop by our office for more information.
Summer Session students interested in exploring the possibility of a period of study abroad are invited to visit or phone the office while they are on campus for the summer programs. Our resource center contains brochures describing Binghamton's programs abroad, as well as catalogs listing other SUNY programs. Students may schedule advising appointment with the study-abroad advisers.
Binghamton University will host a variety of independently owned and operated Summer Sports Camps during the summer of 2008. All camps are run independent of the University, with the exception of the Junior Bearcat Club Summer Fun Camp, and are held on campus at modern, first-rate facilities. Fourteen tennis courts, an indoor swimming pool, the re-modeled West Gymnasium, the Events Center, six grass soccer fields, two new turf fields, newly upgraded baseball and softball fields, indoor and outdoor batting cages, and a weight room are among the athletic facilities available to campers.
